The Don’t You Want Me Project is giving back by providing a rescue dog and mental health support to someone in need from Toronto’s LGBTQ community this Trans Day of Visibility (31 March 2021).
The DYWM Support Fund, born from the social impact photography project Don’t You Want Me, has been designed to help someone from the queer and trans community who is struggling with mental health issues, by providing them with a rescue dog and ongoing practical, emotional and mental health support.
The support fund recipient will receive support from Friends of Ruby -- a charity dedicated to the progressive well-being of LGBTQ+ youth-- through mental health services, social services and housing. The rescue dog has been provided by Save Our Scruff who will provide ongoing support as required. Other parties involved in the Support Fund to date are Jack Jackson Dog Photography, Balmy Beach Pet Hospital, and Small Wonders Pets.
